Feature Requests & Hello!

edited July 2012 in MAIN
Hi,

Just a few things; I am very new to this software but I have a few feature requests.

- Multiple masks on a single layer, its great being able to add a mask but what if I wanted more than one. Is there a solution to this that I can't see/figure out?
- A small preview output window so you can see the end result in a small flowing window, the window in the middle is the same as the output I know; but I think having the option to edit masks, warp, etc but also see this as the end result (without controls) would be nice.
- It's a very VJ thing but a cross fader would be nice so you could assign layers to either A or B and then assign a midi control to it. For live/on the fly use and syphon input this would be a really amazing feature. I know this software is a *little* bit more towards the timeline idea but I think this could still be used.
- Can you drop Quartz Composer effects on a layer? Bit confused about this? I sure I seen a video tutorial with a mouse effecting a video but I can't find it. lol.
- When mapping it would be great to have a big X hair show up to show your mouse X and Y location.
- Also when mapping a 'show test pattern' OR 'white out' temporarily takes over the output and helps you map. As used in mad mapper/isadora, etc. When sat a long way away it can be easy to lose where you are; a big white/red/green/blue x hair is ideal. (I've made one for isadora)

For those wanting to know I am a pro user and beta tester of the isadora software by troikatronix. I am currently researching and doing a few medium scaled video mapping projects but have some big ones coming up in 2013 (hence my research!)

I look forward to talking to you as I am really excited about this software!

So. Thats my 2 cents for now.... Comments welcome.

Kind Regards,

Graham (skulpture)

You could map a MIDI control to the layer opacity.

Just drag the .qtz file on to the layer. It works as expected.

You can easily create a syphon layer but make sure syphon server is running in your VJ software.

Why not use just a .jpeg on a layer for your testcard?

    Cheers

  • Oh - I think you can create multiple masks by using a fill layer :-)

Stoked up about this software - some nice ideas. Would be cool if future version could use .swf or better still have some animation tools :-)

Yes but I still like the idea of a x fader. Would linkup well with Ableton then and many midi controllers.

Thanks for checking out the quartz thing. This is good to hear. I need to explore this; do published parameters show up? And are these midi/osc mappable?

I've had syphon working but not multiple instances.

You can use a JPEG just handy to have a one click button. Then there is no editing of your pages and layers, etc.

    :)
  • Any MIDI controller and Ableton will link up well.

Quartz parameters do show up and .qtz patches work as they do - I tried an audio reactive patch.

Not sure how many instances of siphon can run..perhaps someone can let us know or we can just go ahead and try it. I got to two to test out and works great.

All I need to do now and find out is what exactly is the paradigm behind this software. A feature roadmap would be cool as I think Phillipe has some tricks up his sleeve for future releases :-)

  • Hello @skulpture and thanx @leesu for you helpful replies.

Here are my replies point by point :
    • Multiple masks per layer
I've create an idea on Uservoice. http://millumin.uservoice.com/forums/114535-millumin-s-ideas-/suggestions/2975762-multiple-masks

    • A small preview output window so you can see the end result in a small flowing window, the window in the middle is the same as the output I know; but I think having the option to edit masks, warp, etc but also see this as the end result (without controls) would be nice.
I don't know if you need it often, but you can deselect the layers, and this preview without controls in the workspace.

There is such an idea on Uservoice, but I'm rather working on automatic transitions between media.

    • Can you drop Quartz Composer effects on a layer?
Yes you can use QTZ files.
If you load a QTZ file that reacts to mouse, use the QTZ tool (just after the mask tool) to play with it. You can see this in action at the end of this video.

    • When mapping it would be great to have a big X hair show up to show your mouse X and Y location.
On Millumin, you can show controls on output. From the menu bar, choose "Output" then "Display controls in output".
Is that sufficient for you ?

    • Also when mapping a 'show test pattern' OR 'white out' temporarily takes over the output and helps you map.
Yes, it should come soon with the new "output" tool.

    • Are QTZ params midi/osc mappable?
Not for the moment, but it's planned for sure, despite I've no release date to give you.

    • How many instances of syphon can run ?
As any as you want !

    • A feature roadmap would be cool.
To know more about incoming feature, the simplest solution is to click on "About" in Millumin : it'll show you what's I'm working on right now !
Then you can go on Uservoice and check what's "planned" or event "started".
In brief, I'm working now on filters (crop, color, colorkey, mirror, alpha edges), Artnet support and automatic transitions.
    Have a nice day,
    Philippe

    Hi Philippe and everyone,

while experiencing with Quartz compositions that react to mouse, we noticed the right click (and "other click") isn't recognized in Millumin. Is there a workaround ? (since QC keyboard inputs are not usable...)

    Thanks in advance,
    em

  • Hello @eMTv,

I just add right-click for Quartz tool : is that sufficient ? It will come in the next update (this week).

Unfortenatly "other click" is mostly the wheel-click : and the wheel is already used to zoom. It's the same problem with the keyboard, that's used for other tasks in Millumin. Sorry.

    Best,
    Philippe
  • Skulpture from kineme maybe?

    Cheers.
  • Thanks Philippe for adding the right click to the Quartz tool, and for your explanation about "other click" znf keyboard actions...

Another great improvement would be to add more MIDI mapping possibilities : on effects and media (for video : play / pause / speed, and for quartz the published inputs...)

    ;)

  • Hello @eMTv,

Thank you for your feedback. Some of these ideas are planned, but unfortenatly I've no date to give you.
However, if something is very-very urgent and absolutely need, don't hesitate to drop me an email, so we could find a solution together.

    Best. Philippe
  • Hi again !

I forgot this one in my previous post, but another interesting addition would be a "bounce" mode in the movie controls, in my opinion.

    What do you think ?

    Thanks,
    em
  • Hello @eMTv,

Adding new features is endless, that's why I rely a lot on Uservoice, a place where users can vote for ideas, and influence Millumin's roadmap.
I've create such an idea here for "bounce" mode.

If a feature is very urgent or very required for a show, please write me an email, so we could find a solution together. And I'm sure we'll do !

    Best. Philippe
  • thanks Philippe. I've added my votes ;)

    speak soon.

(and I keep in mind the possibility to email you directly if something turns out to be really urgent...)
  • Hi again,

there's a little something that I believe doesn't fit in the User Voice but would be a great addition to Millumin anyway : displaying in rela-time the FPS of the output somewhere in the GUI.

Do you think it'd be possible, Philippe?

    best,
    em
  • Hello @eMTv,

Yes, it could be very possible, so please add an idea on Uservoice, to see if other users are interested.
For the moment, I don't want to complexify the interface, unless people want it.

    Best. Philippe
