"vtdecoderxpcservice" process high cpu with millumin

Hey I am experiencing crazy slow downs with millumin even running one or two layers with minimal fx. A peak into activity monitor is shows that "vtdecoderxpcservice" is sometimes taking upwards of 400% cpu and only seems to grow as the program stays open and then the videos start stuttering. Millumin becomes almost unusable. It happens with both .mov and .mp4 files.

I am running Mac Sierra 10.12.6 on a mid 2015 mbp
2.5ghz i7
16 gb ram
radeon r9 graphics

Curious if anyone else has run into this issue and found work arounds.

Thanks,
Tim

  • "VTDecoderXPCService" is an Apple process responsible to decode movies such as ProRes (.mov) or H264 (.mp4) files.
    A few questions :
    - What is the codec of your movie ? ProRes-422 ? ProRes-4444 ? H264 ?
    - What is the resolution of your movie ? 1920x1080 ?
    - Is VTDecoderXPCService staying high if no movie is playing in Millumin ?
    - What is your version of Millumin ?
    - What if you use HAP codec instead (see this post) ?

Thank you for your answers to each question.
    Best. Philippe
