Seeking HDMI wireless system advice for Theatre projection setup

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on a theatre production where I split my screen into two parts, projecting videos on stage using two video projectors. The audio output is from my computer to a mixing board.

I usually connect my Mac (MacPro with M3 Max chip, purchased in late December 2023) via HDMI to the projectors (one directly through the Mac’s HDMI port and another via a USB-C to HDMI adapter). For my upcoming performance on February 10th, I’ve been informed that I’ll need to set up my control table farther from the projectors than usual.

Could anyone here advise on the most suitable wireless system to use in this scenario? My main concerns are minimizing latency and avoiding connection bugs.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best,

Jack

  • Hello @Jack57380,

NDI might the solution. You could use a device such as the BirdDog Mini to decode the NDI feed to your projectors.

Another solution is to control Millumin remotely, see this tutorial.

  • Dear Philippe,

Thank you for your prompt response. I have recently received the BirdDog Mini, but I am encountering difficulties with its installation. Unfortunately, the user manual has not provided the clarity I need for setting up the device. Both my computer and the BirdDog are on the same network. Could you please guide me through the correct installation process?

  • Hello @Jack57380,

Sorry, I am not a BirdDog specialist.

If you are having difficulty using your BirdDog Mini, I highly recommend contacting BirdDog Support as they are the best people to provide troubleshooting on their products.

  • Thank you! I will contact them. Just to ensure clarity, does Milumin support a setup for wireless usage? Should I change something in the “Output” section ? Thank you once again!

  • Hello @Jack57380,

Millumin supports NDI protocol that can be sent through Wifi or Ethernet. There is no special setup in Millumin, just select NDI as your canvas output. See this article.

  • Why don't you use an HDMI over fibre Tx/Rx solution? NDI over WiFi will be unreliable in a show environment, and the image quality is much worse than baseband.

  • use 50m or longer HDMI cable,be cautious to use wireless way in theatre performance.
