Live-Camera

Hello! I’m currently trying to use a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera as a live camera. Millumin recognises the camera, but I’m having trouble making the image brighter and, above all, getting it in focus. The camera itself is in focus, but I can’t get the projection to be in focus. Do you have any ideas about what I could do? I’ll send a video and two photos. Thank you very much!!

  • Hello @TheaterderMitte,

If you use Quicktime, do you have the same issue ?

It looks like the preview of the camera is not right. I think you should contact Backmagic support about it.

Hello! In Quick Time we have the same problem. Really interesting: when we When we film a person or even a hand, the image is in focus, both on the camera and in QuickTime and Millumin. As soon as we film an object, it becomes out of focus. It’s in focus on the camera, but not in the software. Very strange... I’ve also tried it with a different camera (not a Blackmagic): same problem.

  • Now we dont have the problem in Quick-Time, but in Millumin only. It’s in focus on the camera, and if it’s in focus on the camera, it’s also in focus in QuickTime, but not in Millumin. Faces, on the other hand, are always in focus; it’s just objects that aren’t. Even when a person walks towards objects that were previously out of focus, they become in focus. When the person walks away, they go out of focus again. We’re testing it, but we don’t really understand the issue.

  • Hello @TheaterderMitte,

Quicktime and Millumin are using the same macOS library to render the content of webcam. I am surprised the behavior is different. Also, USB-C webcam mode of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera ii only for preview and limited to 1080p.

Some controls (such as focus) might be available in Millumin's properties-view : could you check that these controls are correctly set ?

If the problem persists, please send us a TeamViewer session (or equivalent).

  • Hello!

Could it be that there is some sort of automatic face detection and, in this context, focusing? For example, when I use my MacBook’s FaceTime camera, an object (see picture 1) isn’t brought into focus, whereas a face (see picture 2) is brought into focus immediately.

It’s exactly the same with the Blackmagic camera. Millumin focuses on faces but not on objects, even though everything is in focus in the camera.

Is there an automatic setting here that can be turned off?

And where can I change the focus controll?

    Thank you!!

  • Hello @TheaterderMitte,

You might need to disable the Portrait option for your camera, see this Apple article.
