AJA Kona 5 multiple outputs
Anybody had any luck with getting synchronised multiple 12G outputs on a AJA Kona 5?
Am using a Sonnet TB3 enclosure run from a M4 Max MBP. And even with two 12G outputs they’re not synchronised?
Had considered purchasing the new Sonnet TB5 enclosure when it’s out, but not yet convinced this will produce the synchronised outputs?
Thoughts?

Hello @DigitalVT,
Millumin does not support AJA Kona 5 multiple-output synchronization feature. We have planned to work again on this device later 2025 or early 2026.
The new Sonnet TB5 (not out yet) will make you able to output 4 x 2160p60 with the TB5 bandwidth (TB3/4 bandwidth limits to 4 x 2160p30). But it will not help to synchronize.
Right now, you can use a Decklink 8K Pro to output to 4 x 2160p frame-sync. See this article.

Thanks Phillipe,
Thought the AJA box would be better than the Black Magic. But thanks! Will look into the Decklink!

Hey Ian, I am currently running Kona5 cards on a TB5 enclosure, 4-12g outputs synced, it looks great. Only issue is the whole output is delayed from the programer window (and thus from audio)
Thanks,
Ben
Hi Ben,
Thanks for your update. So to clarify, your outputting 4x 12G outputs totally synced, totally locked outputs!!?? Thats good to hear!! Would like to hear more details, whats the refresh rate, 60 or 50Hz? Had shelved obtaining a TB5 enclosure due to my previous issues. Presumably you've got the Sonnet TB5. They're still in short supply?
The delay from the programmers window isnt a problem as long the Outputs are in Sync. What would you say the delay is, one or more frames?
Cheers,
Ian
Hey Ian,
Yes I am running a TB5 enclosure at 8k synced with no problem. Here is my setup procedure for consistent results.
1. Open Millumin file, turn off output
2. Open AJA control panel
3. set AJA control panel output resolution and bit depth in aja control panel
4. Select Millumin output resolution on the proper connector (Video routing)
5. turn on Millumin output
Also after doing some testing these are the delay times I have measured. I measured each of these 2-3 times and they were consistent. Test content was @60FPS
Output - UHD2 @60fps
8Bit = 210ms
10bit = 300ms
10bit HDR = 330ms
Output UHD2 @30fps (Odd that the delay was more at a lower frame rate)
8Bit = 540ms
10bit = 480ms
10bit HDR = 510ms
Hope this helps, looks like the Sonnet DVII TB5's are in stock at B&H.
Thanks,
Ben
Those delays are crazy! Not viable for many shows.
Thanks Ben,
Great insights there!! The latency, although a huge amount is a trade off of having frames, seperate outputs in sync! Which is a major plus! The half or so second from looking up from the control screen to the output display isnt that huge. Its just an issue for the sound dept to delay the playback, which could be at the end of their scale! And it's not like it "live", it's just playback. So the delay for me isnt an issue.
When I last looked at B7H they weren't in stock, but then you also have to factor in shipping to Europe and customs fees!?
Cheers!
Ian
When one can achieve 8K's-worth (at 60Hz) of framelocked output from Millumin via 2x DP1.4 connectors, with no additional hardware cost or latency, the AJA/Blackmagic route doesn't seem viable to my mind...
@ectoplasmosis
How are you managing frame syncing 2x DP1.4 signals? Ive never had luck with this in the past.
