I keep getting this message and then have to do a "Save As" - any idea why it works ok for a while and then suddenly thinks its locked?

You may have a problem of permission. This can be caused for example by a software that "cleans" your computer.
First, be sure such softwares are not running on your computer. Then check that your Desktop is not locked, and try to save your project there.
If the problem persists, try to repair your disk with the macOS utility : see this Apple post.

Thank you for your reply - I have run disk aid now, just in case, but didn't have any cleaning software running.
Whats weird is that I can save a project a few times with no problem and then this suddenly happens
I am n a Macbook Pro - 2.3Ghz quad core i5\
8g Memory
Intel iris plus graphics
Monterey - 12.3.1
We are not aware of such a problem, sorry.
Be sure to update your macOS to latest version (12.6) and let us know the results.
