section in beta version

edited June 15 in MAIN

Hello,

I tested adding sections in the beta version, it's a good fonctionnality but I don't find how to set the end column and if I move a section with 4 columns the section extend the end of the dashboard or or extends to the next section.

I think it's better to set the end column of a section that not change on move or on insert column at the end of section.

Thanks.

  • Hello @limoges,

A section is just separating the columns : it starts where it is marked until the next section (or the end of the board). We want to make this concept as easy to set and manipulate as possible.

If you saw something weird with sections (when rearranging them for example), please share a video to show the problem. Thank you.

  • I didn't see any bugs, but when I tested the function, I needed to define the end of the section so that it wouldn't go all the way to the end.

    Have a nice day.

  • Hello @limoges,

    Thank you for your feedback.

Sorry, I do not understand : why do you want to define the end of the section ? What do you mean exactly by "so it wouldn't go all the way to the end" ?

Sections do not change how the dashboard is behaving, it just shows/hides columns so you it is clearer to read. You could create another section if you want to separate more, or remove some columns if you need to.

  • I believe what @limoges means is: it would be great for all columns within a section to act as an independent 'dashboard', where it would be possible to configure the section to loop the columns within itself.

This would be a really simple and powerful show sequencing tool, without having to use timelines, for basic shows.

  • I mean that a section has a start column and an end column (even if there are columns after) and if we move this section, it keeps the same number of columns.

  • Hello all,

    Thank you for your feedback.

@limoges : to end a section, you have to create another section where you want to end. Does this make sense ? If this does not work for you, could you send us a picture or a video showing what is frustrating for you ? Thank you.

@ectoplasmosis : you can do so with an "auto-go" media that comes back to your first column. Why it is not satisfying for you ?

  • @Millumin The auto-go function works, but it's not convenient to continuously manually update the auto-go duration during fast-paced shows where the duration of media in a particular column can change rapidly.

It would be really great and convenient to be able to have the option to loop Sections as 'sub-routines' within a dashboard.

  • Hello @ectoplasmosis,

So from what I understand, you would want a feature to auto-follow all columns of a section (and loop). It means a section could play infinitly, with a single option to check (no auto-go, no auto-follow).

Is that what you want ?

    Best. Philippe

  • Hey, yes, this would be ideal!

Another very useful feature would be to specify what happens when a media/column is set to 'auto follow'. For example, instead of the only option being moving to the next sequential media, having the ability to specify moving to a defined column/media, launching an interaction etc. We already simulate this by having a data track command in an empty column, but a more convenient, integrated way of achieving this would be great.
