16 x projectors merged into one soft edge panorama using Millunode - possible?

Hi,

I want to display a panoramic image using 16 HD projectors merged into a seamless image.

The projectors are far away from each other - that's why I'm thinking of using a system of multiple small computers connected into a single LAN network.

I need to do edge blending, masking and image deformation on the whole panorama - so one of the computers needs to be a "Master".

Is Millunode and Millumin the way to go here? Is millunode production ready?

Is 1Gb network enough or should I connect them using 10Gb network?

Best!

    Hello @HenryForma,

If you need to do edge blending, you need frame-sync outputs. Thus using a single computer is recommanded (synchronization over the network of several MilluNode is not frame accurate : GPUs will be not in phase anyway).

  • Hi @Millumin

If the nodes are not frame accurate and create visual artifacts - How bad can it be? Is it a question of aesthetics only or will it look like a serious error? Can the frames on the nodes be synced with Nvidia Quadro Sync Card?

  • Hello, @HenryForma,

When doing some edge blending, if the outputs are not synced together, some screen tearing will be visible (on the edge especially) for obvious reasons.

Nor Millumin or MilluNode manages the outputs : it is done at GPU driver level by the OS.

If you are familiar with Nvidia Quadro sync cards, yes you can proceed this way (I mean to synchronize multiple GPUs on various computers). I strongly recommend to test your setup before your event.

This said, now, you could use a single computer to output to 16 x 1080p projectors. I think this would be easier to setup than using multiple computers. Examples in this article.

    Best. Philippe
