Custom output video resolutions from M1 Mac Studio post OS Monterey

In macOS Monterey there was an ability to use a custom output resolution when a custom EDID was sent to the video card on an M1 mac but in macOS Ventura this was limited or eliminated. I have been told that with an M2 mac this has been resolved but I am wondering if macOS Sequoia will allow this ability on an M1 studio. Custom resolutions are used in professional audio visual environments and in use with programs such as Millumin to send a custom resolution to something like an LED wall. I have intentionally kept my M1 Mac Studio Ultras on macOS Monterey because of this issue when updating to macOS Ventura. I would like to update OS but if custom resolutions will not function this is a problem. I want to avoid purchasing M2 Mac Studios until absolutely necessary but I really feel like this should be resolved.

You can use custom EDIDS easily. I do it often. Between receiving them from Barco E2's or PixelHues or Aqualons, it works across OS versions. There are of course many other devices that can push EDIDS

Additionally, you can use Analog Ways EDID creator and BetterDisplay to push your own custom edids from a mac M series.

I'm literally sitting here running this millumin show with custom EDIDS and all manners of integration with M2 ultra studios on Sequoia 15.4.1 into an e2.

  • M1 Pro and higher on Monterey: maximum 7680px W/H via single connector.

M1 Pro and higher on Ventura and higher: maximum 6144px W/H via single connector.

  • Thank you Jesse I just discovered Analog Ways EDID creator and BetterDisplay on wednesday so Im going to implement this and update to the current OS. From what I understand this is a Barco issue only. Christy Spyder does not have this issue with current OS versions.
