i am trying to set up four outputs from a mac studio computer to an E2. three different resolutions. how do i assign my layers to go to each output.

The layers are not connected to your outputs directly, as they are used for compositing. The canvas are doing so.
You probably need to create 3 or 4 canvases depending on your content : see the output popup.
If youy are beginning with Millumin, I recommend you to follow the first tutorial here to get quickly the basics.
