Lighten Blend Mode comprehension

Hi guys,

I'm experimenting troubles when using a layer in lighten mode.

From my understanding, the pixel with the highest value might be display. It works well, but I loose a part of the whole brightness, and this effect disappear when I add a black background.

Is it a side effect from something I don't understand, or maybe a bug?

thank you for an explanation;

  • Hello @deuzair,

    I see what you mean. This is not a bug, just mathematical formulas, and as we discussed in another thread, there are different schools about math for blend-modes, especially when working with transparent pixels.

    For sure, we will not change the current behavior, because this would break projects. However, we might tweak a bit the blend-modes for next version.

    For now, yes, use a solid background (an "independent layer" with a black "color-card").

    Best. Philippe

  • Thank you Philip, as long as I have a workaround, I’m happy.

    and it is now documented for the record here.
