Switch between primary and secondary sound device

Sometimes it would be very useful if I could program my show on my laptop - disconnected from my primary sound device and use a secondary device i.e. the speakers of my laptop. Since Millumin asks me which sound device to use when my primary is not connected. I use a lot of audio routing on my Clarett, but when programming only the video portions I want to be able to switch to my laptop's speakers - working away from Clarett. When I save the project it will then save it with the laptop speakers as the device. Back at the venue I have to switch back to Clarett for each of my timelines and this is quite time consuming.

It would be nice to have a primary and secondary global options to switch between two (or more) devices. I think Logic has this kind of functionality where the original sound device has parentheses when not online.

  • Hello @jaconiel,

Do you need to use audio-routing, I mean requiring to mix channel per channel) ?

    • if yes : you can create an audio layout, so you could permute the audio device when needed
    • if not : simply change the default audio output in macOS System Settings

  • Yes - I use audio routing. And I think I found the solution via the audio layout function. Since when I change the adapter for one layout, it reflects all the timelines affected. Thanks.
