Millumin 5 with Enttecc USB DMX PRO

I’m experiencing an intermittent disconnection issue with the ENTTEC DMX USB Pro while running Millumin 5.12.p on an M1 Mac.

Environment:

- macOS [your version here] (M1)

- Millumin 5.12.p

- ENTTEC DMX USB Pro (with latest FTDI VCP driver installed from FTDI website)

- Direct USB connection (no hub)

- FTDI driver was updated recently from 2.4.2 to the latest version

Issue description:

During show operation, the DMX USB Pro stops receiving/sending data in Millumin, even though:

- macOS USB logs show no physical disconnection or port reset events during the incident

- The device remains powered, and “System Information” shows it as connected

- This suggests a possible **logical disconnection** (session closed or driver reset) rather than a physical USB link drop

Additional notes:

- The device has been stable for hours in other sessions

- The problem occurs suddenly during operation

- No other USB devices are connected to the same controller

- Reconnecting the device or restarting Millumin restores functionality

Could you advise if there are any known issues in Millumin 5.x that could cause the DMX USB Pro serial session to close unexpectedly on macOS M1?

Would you recommend any specific debugging options or logs to capture when this happens again?

Thank you for your support.

Best regards,

  • Hello @Ricky_TS,

We are not aware of such an issue.

A few questions to better understand the situation :

    • Could you reproduce the problem ? If so, how exactly ?
    • Are you sure your USB DMX is correctly plugged and cannot be disconnected by mistake ?
    • Do you have another USB DMX : if so, could you check if you have the problem ?
    • Could you check with Millumin V4 : do you have the same problem ?

    Thank you for your answers.

    Best. Philippe

  • Hello Philippe,

    • The issue is not reproducible on demand, but it has reoccurred several times. The reproducibility rate is low.
    • The USB DMX connection is stable and securely plugged, so accidental disconnection is unlikely.
    • I do not have another USB DMX unit available to test.
    • I have not tested with Millumin V4 on the same computer.
    • I have now switched to a non–Apple Silicon Mac mini, which has previously run this exact setup for over two weeks without any issues.

I will continue monitoring the situation and will update you if I find more specific reproduction steps.

    Best regards, Ricky.

  • Hello, I've the same problem. On Montery 12.7.6

ENTTEC is found in "System Report" in USB section.

I can find it on other software as an output, but can't control lights.

Tried several times to reinstall clean drivers from Millumin setup. Doesn't help.

Tried to click on and off "Open DMX", doesn't help.

Make the same as Ricky's picture.

  • Hello @Hieros_Gamos,

There is no driver to install on recent macOS versions. Be sure there is no other application using your USB DMX (else Millumin will not be able to use the device). Unless you have an "Open DMX" device, do not activate this option.

A few questions to better understand the situation :

    • What is the model of your USB DMX device ? Enttec DMX USB Pro ?
    • What software is detecting your device ? Once detected, does it work correctly ?
    • What is your version of Millumin ? 5.12.t ?

    Best. Philippe

  • Hello !

Enttec DMX USB Pro is the device, you're right.

The software is Madmapper, but it doesn't work event if it's detected.

No one other software is used when Millumin is on.

    My Millumin version is 5.12.r

    Thanks !

  • Hello @Hieros_Gamos,

If the device is not working properly with another software, the issue might not be related to Millumin.

Did you contact Enttec support to check if your device is not broken ?

    Best. Philippe
